London, 2025 — Claritas Intelligence has published its global market report on semiconductor waste gas abatement systems, estimating the market at USD 4.7 billion in 2025 and projecting, under the base case, growth to USD 8.1 billion by 2033 at a compound annual growth rate of 7.2% over the 2025–2033 study period.

The single most consequential structural driver is the concurrent government-funded fab construction cycle: the US CHIPS Act, the EU Chips Act, and parallel incentive programs in Japan and India are sustaining demand for abatement capital well into the decade. Each new 300mm fab requires between USD 15 million and USD 40 million in abatement equipment over a 2–3 year build timeline, according to the Claritas model. The pipeline of confirmed projects sustains that demand into at least 2029. Regulatory tightening compounds the greenfield story. The US EPA, EU Industrial Emissions Directive revisions, and national frameworks in South Korea and Japan are progressively lowering allowable perfluorocompound (PFC) thresholds, converting what were voluntary NF3 and SF6 reduction programs into mandatory retrofit obligations at operating fabs. A third, often underweighted driver sits at the process level: each successive technology node, from 128-layer 3D NAND moving toward 300-layer-plus and logic shrinking from 5nm to 2nm and below, adds etch steps and per-wafer PFC emissions, sustaining aftermarket demand between greenfield cycles. TSMC, Samsung, SK Hynix, and Intel have also embedded PFC abatement performance into their published net-zero commitments and Tier 1 supplier qualification criteria, creating upgrade demand beyond the regulatory floor.

Thermal oxidation systems hold the largest service-type share at approximately 38% of the market, reflecting their efficacy against PFCs and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) generated during CVD and plasma etch processes. The fastest-growing abatement architecture is the burn-wet-scrub (BWS) hybrid configuration, with Claritas modeling a segment CAGR of 9.1% through 2033. BWS adoption reflects fab operators' simultaneous need for high-temperature PFC destruction and downstream particulate capture, a dual requirement that point-of-use thermal or wet-only systems cannot satisfy alone. A leading-edge logic fab running sub-5nm nodes may deploy 200 to 400 individual point-of-use abatement units alongside centralized scrubbing infrastructure, giving the abatement equipment density a strong correlation with primary equipment spend. Applied Materials reported FY2025 revenue of USD 28.37 billion and Lam Research posted USD 18.44 billion for FY2025, both large proxies for the deposition and etch tool spending that triggers parallel abatement procurement.

Asia Pacific commands roughly 52% of global market share, anchored to TSMC, Samsung, and SK Hynix fab expansions across Taiwan and South Korea. The region is simultaneously the largest and the fastest-growing geography in the report's base case, with Japan's Rapidus initiative and India's greenfield fab incentives extending the growth frontier beyond the incumbent Taiwan and South Korea base.

"The market size headline is real, but the profitability picture is more complicated than the growth rate implies. Fab operators are consolidating abatement vendor relationships, demanding fixed-escalator long-term service contracts, and increasingly insourcing first-line maintenance. Specialists like DAS Environmental Expert and Ebara are seeing aftermarket margins compress even as new-unit volumes rise. Investors should stress-test the gap between top-line growth and margin realization before drawing conclusions." — Paras Kulkarni, Claritas Intelligence

The report covers twelve companies active across the abatement systems value chain, including DAS Environmental Expert GmbH, Ebara Corporation, Edwards Vacuum LLC (Atlas Copco Group), Ecosys Technology Co., Ltd., Kanken Techno Co., Ltd., Centrotherm International AG, NAURA Technology Group Co., Ltd., Applied Materials, Lam Research, Thermal Equipment Corporation, Advanced Emissions Solutions, and CVD Equipment Corporation.
